Hello again everyone! Just a few quick updates from Cohasset Elementary School!
Friday is Black and Orange day and the kids will be skating (grades 1-4).
There is a PTC meeting scheduled for this coming Tuesday, February 9th at 4:05 in the Media Center. We hope you can make it!
The next time you check out the school’s website (www.isd318.org/cohasset) check out the right hand side (you might have to scroll down). There’s a widget with interesting statistics about the AR books our kids are reading.
We have added the 2010-2011 school calendar to our website (on the family page and our calendar page). This might come in handy for those looking to schedule events around the school calendar.
We have started to receive donations for our soldiers (Operation Minnesota Nice). We have sponsored 11 soldiers, one for each classroom, and the After School Learning Academy will be writing to a soldier as well. Our schedule for this month’s letters is as follows:
* 2/9/10 Tuesday Folder Donation Reminder
* 2/19/10 Classroom letters written and turned in to office.
* 2/25/10 Boxes packaged.
* 2/26/10 Boxes Mailed
This week using grant, and building funds, we have updated some of our classrooms to include Interactive White Boards. The brand we installed are from http://www.smarttech.com and are called SmartBoards. We will continue to add this technology until each classroom has access. Along the lines of technology we also had our computer lab updated (same machines but updated software and programs). The new programs we added were either open-source (no cost) or available for free. I’m going to list the applications below with links to their sites. These programs are all free to download and available at no cost to families. Depending on the age of your child some of the programs offer amazing learning opportunities.
* Google Earth
* Google Sketch Up
* OpenOffice Suite (We didn’t add this but it’s an alternate to Microsoft Office)
* Audacity (sound editing)
* Gimp (image editing)
* Mind Mapping Software
Thanks again reading this! I’m sure I’ll think of more later, I’ll keep adding to the Principal’s Pad…..
